They play to grow their strength. Physical, mental, and social. And thus learn how to survive. It is an evolutionary need.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Playing sports is a fundamental right of every human being, says UNESCO\u2019s International Charter for Physical Education and Sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/ruJ7lCxJQ6fRAJ099BBOqGZ4Fkzqrh5rlJwrdmJOQgdLHrRIgh98QQyQyvwTW7INDbSOpqaUN0S-7blB39ti-r4nlpMtYk6WNmgCvFNXQgYd26D5nK1SoFHUTFRfJRyCfYpYvi9k\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Finding the right balance<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In many cases, teenagers are at a crossroads to decide what they want to become in life. More so in cases of athletes, who put in a lot of effort in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enjogo.com\/newsletter\/the-right-age-to-start-kicking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">their early years<\/a> to shape their sporting career, often allowing education to take a backseat.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=bpPjOG_P15s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">conversation<\/a> with Richard Hood, Head Coach of FC Bengaluru United, he emphasized the necessity of balancing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enjogo.com\/newsletter\/sports-studies-do-they-go-hand-in-hand\/?_thumbnail_id=207\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sports and academics<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"640\" src=\"https:\/\/www.enjogo.com\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Richard-Hood-1024x640.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1046\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.enjogo.com\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Richard-Hood-1024x640.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.enjogo.com\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Richard-Hood-300x188.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.enjogo.com\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Richard-Hood-768x480.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.enjogo.com\/newsletter\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/Richard-Hood.jpg 1152w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs a teenager, the decision is mostly pursuing football or nothing. But if you look at international superstars like Chiellini or Chiesa, they pursued academics alongside football. Despite Chiesa\u2019s dad being an international player, he completed a graduate degree and learned English if football didn\u2019t work out. It\u2019s great to believe in your abilities but don\u2019t put all eggs in one basket. It puts unnecessary pressure on an individual\u201d said Richard Hood, on chalking plans for a teenage football aspirant.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Creating options and enjoying the process<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>But how do we create a conducive culture where aspirants can have equal opportunities to pursue academics and sports?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Is it possible to lessen the burden on young minds and let them enjoy the process?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kishore Taid, CEO of enJogo and BBFS, believes so.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cKids who didn\u2019t make it to our academy team at age 15 represented India at 21. The athletic maturity, in my opinion, comes in the 20s. It is unfair if our children are forced to make a career choice in their teens,\u201d said he.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Historically, India has been a sports-loving nation, where only 2% of its citizens<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportskeeda.com\/sports\/indian-sports-18-realities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> actively pursue sports<\/a>. On the other hand, if we compare the numbers with our neighbours &#8211; &nbsp; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/statistics\/895987\/share-of-chinese-population-engaged-in-regular-physical-exercising\/#:~:text=Share%20of%20Chinese%20population%20doing%20sports%20regularly%202014%2D2025&amp;text=In%202017%2C%20around%2041%20percent,population%20were%20doing%20sports%20regularly.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">41% of the Chinese population<\/a> actively plays sports.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At BBFS, we started the residential academy project to provide the right platform for children to develop holistically.
